Sheriff's deputy in southwest Ohio treated at hospital after accident while probing crash

CINCINNATI — A southwest Ohio sheriff says a deputy has been treated and released from a hospital after being injured in an accident on Interstate 71.

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil says deputy Herman Oyler was investigating an earlier traffic crash Saturday night on southbound I-71 in the northeast Cincinnati suburb of Madeira. Police say a 27-year-old driver lost control of his car as he slowed for traffic near the accident scene, going off the right side of the road and hitting a Jeep that had been involved in the crash Oyler was investigating.

The Jeep then hit the deputy.

The sheriff's office says in a release that Oyler and the Cincinnati motorist were treated for minor injuries and released from hospitals. The accident remains under investigation.
