CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives say they have made an arrest in a 20-year-old sexual assault case.

A statement from police says the department's sexual assault cold case unit has charged 50-year-old Kirk Deanglo Evans with first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was arrested Tuesday morning, and he is being held under a $200,000 bond. Jail records didn't indicate whether he had an attorney.

Police said a woman was walking along a local street in February 1994 when Evans approached her and forced her into a vehicle, drove to another location and sexually assaulted the victim.

Late last year, detectives re-examined the evidence and submitted the DNA to a lab, which said the evidence matched that of Evans.
