San Diego Harbor police officer shoots man he said tried to grab gun during struggle

SAN DIEGO — A San Diego Harbor police officer has shot and killed a man he said tried to grab his gun.

Authorities say the officer, a 9-year veteran, stopped a man Tuesday night in a Holiday Inn parking lot because he suspected he was looking for cars to burglarize.

Police say the man attacked the officer and they fell to the ground struggling. During the battle, the officer's Taser shocked both him and the man.

Authorities say the officer finally managed to stand and shot the man in the chest when he tried to take the officer's handgun.

The man died at the scene. There's no word on his identity.

The officer was treated for moderate injuries at a hospital.
