HARTFORD, Conn. — The Senate has passed the latest effort by the General Assembly to boost job growth in Connecticut.
On a 32-2 vote, senators on Friday approved a measure advocates said builds upon a job creation bill passed year. The legislation now moves to the House.
Under the proposal, first offered by the Senate Democrats, companies with up to 100 workers can apply for the state's new assistance program, which offers $180 million in loans and grants. Under current law, the threshold is up to 50 employees.
The bill also provides grants to subsidize a company's hiring of unemployed, post-Sept. 11th combat veterans for their first 180 days on the job, and creates "Connecticut Made" and "Connecticut Treasures" programs to promote products made in the state and promote the state's attractions.
