Woman's death ruled homicide in connection to Flagstaff couple found dead in wooded area


FLAGSTAFF, Arizona — Coconino County officials have ruled that one person in a couple that was found dead in a wooded area of the San Francisco Peaks was killed in an apparent homicide.

Searchers found the bodies of Flagstaff residents 23-year-old Ashley Darby and 35-year-old Jeriah Hildwine Sept. 23.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports ( ) that the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office has declared Darby's death a homicide. Officials declared Hildwine's death a suicide.

Sheriff's spokesman Gerry Blair said a suicide note was found in Darby's vehicle at a trailhead parking lot and that the bodies were found about 1/3 of a mile away.

The couple was reported missing in early September.
