Sentencing set for Ohio man who pleaded guilty in cross-burning case in black family's yard

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A judge has set a sentencing date for a man who pleaded guilty to a civil rights charge in the case of a wooden cross bearing a racial slur that was burned in the yard of a black Ohio family.

A federal complaint alleged that 21-year-old Brandon Rhodes and a juvenile co-conspirator, who are white, also wrote "KKK will make you pay" on the cross burned in Morrow County in March 2011.

U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Frost on Monday set a June 21 sentencing date for Rhodes, who pleaded guilty two months ago to conspiracy to threaten the rights of an individual and faces 10 years in prison.

The juvenile pleaded guilty to five misdemeanor counts of aggravated menacing.

Rhodes' attorney did not immediately return a message left Monday.
