Motorcyclist stopped on the West Side Highway struck by car, seriously injured


NEW YORK — The NYPD says a motorcyclist stopped in the middle of the West Side Highway was seriously injured overnight after a car struck him from behind.

The accident occurred around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday in the southbound lanes near 70th Street. Police say the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

It wasn't immediately known why he had stopped in the middle lane of the highway.

Southbound traffic was diverted at 79th Street for several hours while police investigated. The highway was reopened around 5 a.m.
