DETROIT — Michigan's turnaround district for low-performing public schools has approved a $325,000 annual base salary for its newly hired permanent chancellor.

The Education Achievement Authority's board of directors approved the contract for Veronica Conforme on Tuesday. It's unchanged on a yearly basis from her monthly salary of about $27,080 as interim chancellor, and is the same amount the previous chancellor was paid. Conforme became interim chancellor in June and the board voted to hire her as the permanent chancellor last week after a search.

Conforme will donate $25,000 of her salary to charity this year while receiving an extra $25,000 for relocation expenses. Her contract runs until June 2018.

The Detroit Free Press reports the EAA has about 7,200 students this year in its direct-run and charter schools.
