Miss America returning to hometown of Opelika to benefit high school

OPELIKA, Alabama — Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagan is scheduled to return to her hometown of Opelika on May 16.

Opelika officials say activities will include a luncheon, a meet-and-greet event, and an evening reception. Proceeds from the functions will benefit Opelika High School's science, technology, engineering, and math programs.

Hagan was named Miss America on Jan. 12. She grew up in Opelika and attended Auburn University before moving to Brooklyn to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. She earned the titles of Miss New York City and then Miss New York before becoming Miss America.
