Fire in Providence leaves 11 people homeless, no injuries reported


PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — A fire in Providence has left 11 people homeless.

Deputy Assistant Fire Chief Joseph Desmarais tells the Providence Journal ( ) the blaze broke out just after 5 a.m. in a house on Deborah Steet in the city's Silver Lake Section.

They say five adults and six children living in the home were able to escape the flames without injury.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Desmarais says the damage from the fire was moderate, but the home is no longer inhabitable.
