PEABODY, Massachusetts — A Peabody man charged with killing his ex-wife was held without bail at his arraignment in a hospital room.

A not guilty plea was entered on behalf of 46-year-old Joseph Buonanduci on Monday at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport.

Authorities say he fatally beat his ex-wife, Donna Buonanduci, in her home last Friday then led police on a car chase Saturday than ended in a crash on Interstate 495 in Amesbury. Joseph Buonanduci was injured in the crash.

Prosecutrors say Joseph Buonanduci was suicidal and blamed his wife for his financial difficulties since their divorce in February.

His attorney said his client is "not in a frame of mind to make rational choices."
