Alabama church congregation displaced after fire tears through sanctuary, preschool

CLAY, Alabama — Center Point fire officials say a blaze tore through a church's sanctuary and a preschool that's attached to the building.

Fire Marshal Matt Angelo tells WBRC-TV the cause of the blaze that ravaged the Claybridge Baptist Church early Saturday is under investigation but the fire appears to have started from inside the building.

The congregation was expecting to hold its Sunday morning service outside. Pastor Ron Hudgens tells WBMA-TV local churches and the mayor have offered support.

The church's preschool director Tammy Pannell says a local church has agreed to let Claybridge temporarily run preschool services at their building.
