Former high school band coach in Colorado Springs gets 30 days in jail for sexting student


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — A former high school band coach in Colorado Springs who was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old student has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of supervised probation.

The Gazette reports ( ) 39-year-old David Hurd pleaded guilty in September to one count of sexual exploitation of a child and was sentenced Tuesday. He was a contract band coach at Air Academy and Liberty high schools.

The victim testified Tuesday that Hurd had approached her during a vulnerable point in her life. He told her he struggled with similar issues and she was led to believe they had many things in common.

Hurd was accused of exchanging sexually explicit photos with the student.
