NEW PLYMOUTH, Idaho — Two people have died in western Idaho in a two-vehicle collision.

Idaho State Police say 81-year-old Phillip L. Vanderpool of Wilder was northbound on U.S. Highway 30 in a 1999 GMC Suburban at about 7:15 a.m. Sunday when he failed to yield at a stop sign at a junction with State Highway 72.

Police say Vanderpool and his passenger, 76-year-old Velma R. Vanderpool of Wilder, died at the scene after colliding with a 2011 Ford pickup.

The driver and passenger of the pickup were taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

Police say the Vanderpools weren't wearing seatbelts.
