Lowell baby boy dies, father charged with shaking him could face additional charges

LOWELL, Massachusetts — Prosecutors say a 2-month-old Lowell baby allegedly shaken by his father has died.

The Middlesex district attorney's office says William Berry was taken off life support and died Friday at Tufts Floating Hospital for Children in Boston.

An autopsy has been performed and could result in additional charges against the father, 22-year-old Christopher Berry.

Prosecutors allege he shook the baby boy on May 11 causing catastrophic brain injuries. He pleaded guilty last week to assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury. He is being held on $500,000 bail.

Berry's attorney says his client has post-traumatic stress disorder after serving a year in Afghanistan and has been receiving medication and counseling.
