Fairfax police arrest teen in Va. mosque vandalism case; no evidence that act was a hate crime

FAIRFAX, Va. — Police have arrested an 18-year-old and charged him with vandalizing an under-construction mosque in Chantilly.

Centreville resident Trenton M. Carter has been charged with felony destruction of property. Police say additional arrests are possible. Carter was arrested May 3, but police did not announce his arrest until Friday.

Fairfax County Police spokesman Bud Walker says there is no evidence that the vandalism was a hate crime.

The site will be home to the Ahmadiyya (ah-mah-DEE'-yah) Muslim Community Mosque. The January vandalism left the mosque with about $60,000 in damage, and numerous broken windows.
