Experts say wildfire near Possum Kingdom Lake, site of 2011 devastation, mostly contained

PALO PINTO, Texas — Experts say a wildfire in a North Texas lake-area community devastated by 2011 blazes has been mostly contained with no damage to structures.

Texas A&M Forest Service spokesman Nick Harrison said Wednesday that the fire at Possum Kingdom Lake was 80 percent contained. Residents of about 30 houses that were evacuated as a precaution were allowed back into their homes Tuesday night.

Harrison says nobody has been injured in the wildfire that broke out Monday afternoon and scorched more than 40 acres. Forecasters say the area has a chance of rain Wednesday.

The Possum King Lake area, located about 75 miles west of Fort Worth, lost dozens of homes to wildfires during the 2011 drought.
