Children evacuated from school bus after tire catches fire on San Diego freeway

SAN DIEGO — Authorities say 40 children have been safety evacuated from a school bus that caught fire on a freeway in San Diego.

Students lined up on the side of the highway Monday and waited for another bus to transport them.

Witnesses reported seeing smoke coming out of a rear tire, prompting the driver to pull over.

An online traffic report from the California Highway Patrol says the evacuation occurred on Interstate 15. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department says the fire was out by the time crews arrived.

KSWB-TV says the bus was carrying children headed to a Christian camp.
