SHELBY, North Carolina — Authorities say a man has been shot by police officers who were responding after he called deputies to tell them he had shot and killed his friend at an apartment in Shelby.

Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman said Schuylar "Marty" Camp in in a Charlotte hospital after being shot in the arm around 1 a.m. Monday.

The sheriff says Camp fired on officers responding to a call from Camp saying he shot Roger Dale Sisk. Sisk died at the scene.

Norman says Camp went back in the apartment after he was shot, but surrendered a short time later.

The sheriff says Camp and Sisk were friends, but he doesn't know what led to the fatal shooting.
