Trial set for July-August for man charged with shooting another man to death in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, South Dakota — A trial date has been set for a man charged with shooting another man to death in a Rapid City hotel parking lot earlier this year.

KOTA TV reports (http://bit.ly/15kYX34) that 30-year-old Charles Birdshead will stand trial for felony manslaughter July 29-August 5. Birdshead is accused of shooting 33-year-old Eustacio Maruffo to death at the South Dakota Rose Inn on Jan. 7. He also is accused of raping a child, which was uncovered during the investigation into the shooting.

Birdshead's attorney has asked that there be separate trials for each of the charges. A judge has yet to make a decision.

Birdshead's next court appearance is June 10.
