Prosecutors: Street gang member faces murder charge in deadly 2010 restaurant shooting

PLAINFIELD, New Jersey — Authorities say a street gang member has been charged with murder in connection with a restaurant shooting that left one man dead and another wounded.

Union County prosecutors say 26-year-old Richard Culver, of Plainfield, was arrested early Tuesday at his home without incident. His bail was set at $750,000 and it wasn't known if he has retained an attorney.

The murder charge stems from a 2010 shooting at a Plainfield restaurant that killed 25-year-old city resident Sahaad Monroe-McCoy and injured his cousin.

Prosecutors say Culver, a member of the Crips street gang, had been targeting Monroe-McCoy's cousin, who they say is a high-ranking member of Plainfield's G-Shine set of the Bloods street gang. The cousin's name has not been released.

If convicted, Culver could face a life sentence.
