NORFOLK, Virginia — A July 25 sentencing is set for a man convicted of killing a Norfolk student after a high school football game.

Media outlets report that a Norfolk Circuit Court jury found 20-year-old Carnell Vaughan guilty on Wednesday of second-degree murder and use of a firearm.

Prosecutors say Vaughan shot 19-year-old Lake Taylor High School student David L. White as White was leaving the school's game at Booker T. Washington High School on the night of Sept. 28, 2012. The shooting occurred near the school.

The shooting prompted Norfolk Public Schools to switch to Saturday afternoon high school football games that year. School officials cited safety concerns for the decision.
