COVINA, California — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says a 23-year-old woman is in fair condition after being stabbed by a transient in an unincorporated area near Covina.

The victim was skateboarding with friends early Monday on the campus of an adult school when the male transient approached on a bicycle.

A department statement says the victim recognized the man as an acquaintance and after they made eye contact he stabbed her with a knife, abandoned his bicycle and fled over a fence.
