COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio man has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter after prosecutors said his drive-by-shooting led to the death of his 8-year-old nephew riding in the car with him.

Twenty-four-year-old Robert Broom changed his plea Tuesday, pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and illegal possession of a weapon. He was originally indicted on murder and other charges.

The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1yFyKGc ) prosecutors said Broom, two other adults and two children were in the car when Broom fired at two men outside a Columbus house last April. They say 8-year-old Jamarion Cox was struck by a bullet when one man returned fire at the car. He died four days later.

Broom's attorney Kort Gatterdam says Broom clearly didn't kill his nephew, and the boy's mother will speak on Broom's behalf at sentencing.
