LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The offensive coordinator for second-ranked Alabama and the defensive coordinator for an Arkansas team that has shut out two ranked teams in its last two games are listed as nominees for the Broyles Award.

The award is given each year to the top assistant college football coach. It was established in 1996 to honor former Arkansas coach Frank Broyles, who produced some of the top assistant coaches in the country. Many went on to head coaching jobs.

Lane Kiffin, who has helped lead Alabama to second in The Associated Press rankings and the top spot in the College Football Playoff rankins, and Robb Smith, whose defensive unit shut out LSU and Ole Miss in the past two weeks, are among the 40 nominees.

The Broyles Award winner will be announced Dec. 9 in Little Rock from a list of five finalists.

The award is presented by the Rotary Club of Little Rock and Delta Dental.
