LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana — The Calcasieu Parish School Board has voted to deny an application from Louisiana Achievement Charter Academy to open two charter schools.

Superintendent Wayne Savoy told the board Tuesday the company has applied through the state Department of Education to open 12 charter schools throughout the state over the next four years. Savoy said the company applied to open one Calcasieu school in 2015 and the other in 2016.

The American Press reports (http://bit.ly/1eOXZNb ) Savoy told the board if they approved the application, the district would have to enter into an agreement with the company and would technically be funding the school but wouldn't have control over it. Savoy says the company can now go to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education for approval.
