Police say bicyclist struck, killed by vehicle on Long Island road, no tickets issued

HOLTSVILLE, New York — Police say a bicyclist was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on a Long Island road.

Suffolk County police say 20-year-old Christopher Chizzoniti of Holbrook was driving on Express Drive South in Holtsville when his vehicle hit a bicyclist traveling in the right lane of traffic around 10 p.m. Friday.

The bicyclist was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim as a 42-year-old homeless man, Steven Preitz.

Chizzonity wasn't injured. His vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

No tickets were issued.
