Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Rapid City worth $40,000; jackpot sits at $29 million

RAPID CITY, South Dakota — A Mega Millions ticket sold in Rapid City is worth $40,000 in the latest drawing.

South Dakota lottery officials say the ticket matched four of five white ball numbers and the Mega Ball in Tuesday's drawing to win the game's $10,000 third prize. The winner also purchased a $1 option that quadrupled the amount.

The odds of winning $40,000 playing Mega Millions are one in about 689,000. The winner has about six months to claim the prize.

Mega Millions is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The jackpot was at $29 million for the Friday drawing.
