Strong winds knock down trees, power line in southwest Wisconsin; gusts to continue Thursday


LA CROSSE, Wisconsin — A storm system barreling through the Midwest has brought strong winds to southwestern Wisconsin.

The National Weather Service in La Crosse says winds knocked down trees and a power line in Grant County on Wednesday. But no injuries are reported.

Wind gusts of up to 50 and 48 mph were reported in southwestern Wisconsin.

Parts of southern Wisconsin could see up to 1.5 inches of rain, with readings of 2 inches possible in some areas.

Sustained winds of 30 mph are forecast Thursday across southern Wisconsin, with gusts of up to 45 mph. Snow is likely Thursday night, and could get heavy at times in far northern Wisconsin.
