W.Va. DOH set to award $20M contract for another section of Coalfields Expressway this fall

CHARLESTON, West Virginia — The West Virginia Division of Highways will award a $20 million contract for a two-mile section of the Coalfields Expressway this fall.

State Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox says the work is from West Helen to County Route 12/1.

It's one of four projects that will eventually connect West Helen with Mullens, and it's funded with a combination of state and federal dollars.

Richard Browning is director of the Coalfields Expressway Authority Executive. He says the corridor will be critical to the future prosperity of southern West Virginia.

When completed, the four-lane, 65-mile expressway will run from Raleigh County to Buchanan County, Virginia
