Task force considering changing how Ohio draws legislative districts gets more time for report

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A panel expected to recommend changes in how Ohio draws legislative and congressional districts is getting more time to complete its report.

The task force was created in legislation signed by Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) late last year after months of political wrangling over the congressional map. The maps are redrawn once each decade after the census to reflect changes in population.

The panel's initial deadline was June 30. Its leaders decided to push that back to Dec. 15 to allow more time for studying the issue and pursuing compromises.

The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/JuXSsV ) reports the new deadline was included in wide-ranging legislation approved by the Ohio Senate on Wednesday.
