Beech Bottom woman gets 30-year sentence for botched robbery in which accomplice was killed

WHEELING, West Virginia — A Beech Bottom woman is going to prison for participating in a botched robbery in which an accomplice was killed.

Media outlets report that 41-year-old Melody Fisher received a 30-year sentence for first-degree robbery and a one- to five-year sentence for conspiracy. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Fisher was sentenced Wednesday in Ohio County Circuit Court in Wheeling. She had entered an Alford plea to the charges in April.

An Alford plea means a defendant doesn't admit guilty but acknowledges there's enough evidence for conviction.

Police say Fisher was at the wheel of the getaway car when Kevin Walnoha was fatally shot by a pharmacist while attempting to rob the Elm Grove Pharmacy on May 25, 2012.

An investigation concluded the shooting was justified.
