Phillies recall utility player Michael Martinez, right-handed reliever Michael Stutes

WASHINGTON — The Philadelphia Phillies have recalled utility player Michael Martinez and right-handed reliever Michael Stutes.

The Phillies made the moves before Friday's game at the Washington Nationals.

Martinez was hitting .239 in 32 games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He replaces second baseman Chase Utley, who was placed on the disabled list Thursday with an oblique strain. Freddy Galvis was slated to start at second base for Philadelphia on Friday.

The Phillies optioned Phillippe Aumont to make room for Stutes, who was 1-2 with a 3.33 ERA in 20 appearances at Lehigh Valley. Aumont was 1-3 with a 4.15 ERA for Philadelphia.

Stutes went 6-2 with a 3.63 ERA in 62 innings for the Phillies in 2011, but has missed more than a year after undergoing elbow surgery last summer.
