IOWA CITY, Iowa — Registration for leasing garden plots in Iowa City begins Monday in the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports ( that numbers will be placed in the lobby in the upper level of the building beginning at 6 a.m., and staff will begin calling out numbers in order starting at 7:30 a.m.

People are encouraged to arrive early on the first day of registration, as the garden plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Only one plot is permitted per person.

All plots are located in Wetherby Park.

The cost to lease one of the 37 available 10-by-50-foot plots is $22 for Iowa City residents and $27 for nonresidents. One of the 68 available 10-by-23-foot plots is $12 for residents and $17 for nonresidents.
