HELENA, Montana — Officials are investigating the death of a 32-year-old inmate at Montana State Prison.

Prison officials say Matthew Brandemihl was found dead Wednesday morning in his cell in a high-security unit. The prison statement says the death was unexpected and no foul play is suspected.

An autopsy will be performed.

Brandemihl was in prison for a probation violation. He would have been eligible for parole next year.

He was arrested last year after authorities said he stole three vehicles, burglarized a home and led them on a high-speed chase from Gallatin County to Madison County.

Brandemihl received a 10-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to criminal endangerment, theft and misdemeanor trespassing.

He was re-arrested after his probation officers lost contact with him.
