CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — A central Ohio sheriff says a 64-year-old man has been killed in a house fire.

Pickaway County Sheriff Robert Radcliff says smoke and heat in the burning home in Circleville turned back firefighters who tried to rescue James Morgan on Friday afternoon.

The cause of the fire at Morgan's residence wasn't immediately known. The fire appeared to be confined to the area where the victim was found.

The Ohio Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
