SHIPPENSBURG, Pennsylvania — The southbound lanes of Interstate 81 are open again following a fiery collision that claimed the lives of two women.

State police say the crash occurred in the Shippensburg area Thursday night and the southbound lanes remained closed until mid-morning Friday.

Police say the driver of a van in the northbound lanes lost control and the vehicle veered across the median strip, colliding head-on with southbound tractor-trailer and starting a fire.

Both women in the van were killed. The truck driver was not injured.

State police have not released the victims' identities.
