NORTH POTOMAC, Maryland — Authorities in Montgomery County say two people are dead and two more are seriously injured after a car crashed into a tree.

County police say the crash happened just before midnight Thursday on Dufief Mill Road in North Potomac. Police say a sedan with four people inside was headed north when it left the road, striking a tree.

When officers arrived, they found two men dead. Police identified them as 18-year-old Alexander Murk of Potomac and 18-year-old Calvin Jia-Xing Li of Rockville.

Officers say the car's driver, 18-year-old Samuel Joseph Ellis of North Potomac, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. A third passenger, whom police did not identify, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are investigating the crash and police say speed and alcohol are possible factors.
