New Orleans bicyclist killed after being hit by 18-wheeler


NEW ORLEANS — A 52-year-old man riding his bicycle in a New Orleans neighborhood has been killed after being run over by an 18-wheeler.

New Orleans Police say the victim, whose name was not immediately released, died about 1:40 p.m. Thursday.

The New Orleans Advocate ( ) reports police said the 18-wheeler, driven by an unidentified 51-year-old man from Violet, was headed west on St. Claude Avenue and was turning onto Elysian Fields when the accident happened.

The cyclist died at the scene.

Police did not issue any citations to the tractor-trailer's driver.
