MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The U.S. Department of Transportation has approved Florida-based Silver Airways to become the new commercial carrier for three West Virginia airports.
It will provide federally subsidized service for two years in Bridgeport, Morgantown and Beckley when Colgan Air's contract ends July 31. Colgan announced in March it wouldn't seek to renew the contract.
Silver Airways was the only carrier to offer a replacement bid.
Rockefeller urges people to use the new service to ensure it remains in the state.
Sen. Jay Rockefeller, Sen. Joe Manchin and Rep. Nick Rahall announced the final approval Tuesday.
The Essential Air Service subsidy program is designed to ensure rural areas get the service they need to grow economically.
