Indianapolis police officer shoots man in chest after suspect points gun at woman

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police say an officer has shot and wounded a man after the man pointed a gun at a woman.

Officers Kendale Adams says the shooting Sunday afternoon left the suspect with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition. His name wasn't immediately released.

Adams says the man was shot by Officer Greg Taylor, an 11-year police veteran.

Adams says the woman summoned police because the man threatened to kill her. As Taylor escorted her back inside a home, the man raised the gun he was holding and pointed it at her before Taylor shot him.

The man fled from the home but was captured with the help of a police dog.

No one else was hurt.
