PHOENIX — Phoenix police say two officers fatally shot a man who had been stabbing himself with a knife before lunging toward the officers.
According to police, the incident happened Sunday night after police responded to 911 calls about a man waving a knife and stabbing himself in the middle of a street.
Sgt. Vince Lewis says two of the responding officers shot the man after they felt threatened as he turned on them and approached with the knife.
The man's identity was not released immediately.
The officers were not injured. Their identities also were not released immediately. They were placed on administrative leave under a Police Department policy.
