Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer activated from 15-day disabled list

SAN FRANCISCO — The Colorado Rockies have activated outfielder Michael Cuddyer from the 15-day disabled list in time for Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants.

As expected, he was starting in right field and batting fifth in the series opener against the reigning World Series champions.

Cuddyer had been sidelined by an inflamed cervical disk. The 34-year-old Cuddyer was among the league leaders with a .319 batting average to go along with seven home runs and 23 RBIs when he went on the DL.

Colorado optioned infielder Josh Rutledge to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday to clear roster room for Cuddyer's return.
