Massachusetts gains jobs, November unemployment rate falls to 5.8 percent

BOSTON — Massachusetts gained an estimated 13,500 jobs in November while the unemployment rate stood at 5.8 percent, down from 6 percent in the previous month.

The office of Labor and Workforce Development said Thursday the state's total workforce increased by 17,600 in November, with 3,400 fewer residents unemployed during the month.

The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics also made a slight revision in employment growth for October, saying Massachusetts gained 1,600 jobs, up from the earlier estimate of 1,200.

The state has gained a net of nearly 60,000 jobs in the past 12 months.

The U.S. unemployment rate was also at 5.8 percent in November, a month that saw the most job growth nationally in three years.
