Hartford man gets 18 years in killing of other man whose body was stuffed into duffel bag

HARTFORD, Connecticut — A Hartford man is going to prison for 18 years for his role in the beating death of a man whose body was stuffed into a duffel bag and dumped in northern Connecticut.

Anthony Hudson was sentenced Thursday in Hartford Superior Court.

Prosecutors say Peter Boateng was beaten to death in July 2013 because of Hudson's actions. A jury found Hudson guilty in July of being an accessory to assault.

Co-defendant Meaghan Cowles testified that Hudson wanted Boateng out of the apartment "dead or alive" after a dispute over rent. She and her boyfriend Jose Rodriguez shoved the body into a duffel bag and then dumped it in Suffield.

Hudson maintains he had no role in the killing and that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
