National Weather Service: Last month snowiest , second-coldest February on record

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — The National Weather Service says Providence got 31.8 inches of snow in February, setting a record for the month.

The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1AOD2ze ) that it also was the second-coldest February on record, with an average temperature of 18.4 degrees. On average, Providence gets 8.5 inches of snowfall in February and the average February temperature in Providence is 32 degrees.

Throughout the month, the temperature never broke 40 degrees, with the highest temperature recorded at 39 degrees on Feb. 4 and 22.

The coldest temperature was 5 below zero on Feb 21.
