Bismarck woman accused of striking 2-year-old girl with beer bottle; cut required 5 staples

BISMARCK, North Dakota — A Bismarck mother is facing a felony child abuse charge after allegedly striking a 2-year-old girl in the head with a beer bottle.

Twenty-seven-year-old Katie Letz allegedly had been drinking Tuesday night when she threw the bottle at her boyfriend, who was holding her daughter at the time.

Police say the child suffered a 1-inch cut on her head that required five staples. She was treated at a local hospital.

Letz faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Court documents indicate she is being appointed a public defender. No one answered the telephone at her home on Thursday morning.
