SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — Another influential teachers' organization is endorsing state Sen. Kirk Dillard in the GOP primary for Illinois governor.
The Illinois Retired Teachers Association says Wednesday that it's backing the Hinsdale Republican.
Bob Pinkerton is the IRTA president. He says Dillard is a "man of his word" and has strong ties to public schools.
The IRTA is a nonprofit that represents more than 35,000 retired teachers. This is the first time the group has made a primary endorsement.
The Illinois Education Association announced its support of Dillard earlier this month.
The groups' support could boost Dillard's primary positioning. He has lagged in fundraising and been unable to buy television advertising.
