PHOENIX — A 20-year-old man is dead following a fight that Phoenix police say occurred after one group of young men made gang signs at another group.

The incident occurred Sunday night at 16th and Van Buren streets. The victim's identity has not been released and police said they were continuing to interview witnesses.

Meanwhile, police said 22-year-old Darell D. Hitchins was fatally shot at a nearby location in a different incident Sunday.

Sgt. Trent Crump said three people told police that Hitchins had approached them, pulled out a gun and struck one in the head, possibly with the gun.

Crum said the man who was struck reportedly pulled out a gun and shot Hitchins. Crump said the case will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review.
