Phoenix police: Confrontation between 2 members of rival tagging crews ends in fatal shooting

PHOENIX — Police in Phoenix say a confrontation between two members of rival tagging crews has ended in a fatal shooting.

They identified the victim as 18-year-old Raul Ortega.

Police say 19-year-old Jasyel A. Perez has been booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

It was unclear Tuesday if Perez has a lawyer yet.

Police officers pulling up to the front yard of a home Monday night say they found Ortega unconscious with multiple gunshots wounds.

He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police say an altercation had occurred earlier when a motorist pulled up at the home and reportedly pointed a gun at one of the residents.

Several people arrived and began arguing in the front yard and police say shots rang out and the suspects fled.
